# Exporting data

> Export research artifacts and selected records from the appropriate Ploti surface

# Export the result you actually need

Ploti can produce several exportable objects. Choose the source that matches the intended snapshot.

## Research tables and checkpoints

Open the artifact from the completed research request. Use its export action when you need the exact rows and columns produced by the research.

## Record selections

Open a record list or saved view, choose **Export**, select the records, and start the export. This path reflects the current tracked record state rather than the original research result.

## Documents and files

Research documents open in their document view. Generated files remain attached to the research chat or artifact list for download.

## Map context

When the recipient needs to understand spatial relationships, share the live mapped artifact or saved record view alongside the exported file. A flat file cannot preserve layer visibility, styling, source context, or follow-up chat.

## Before sharing

* Check whether the export reflects a live query or a point-in-time checkpoint.
* Preserve missing values and caveat columns.
* Remove sensitive workspace fields that the recipient should not receive.
* Include authoritative source links for consequential regulatory conclusions.
