# Creating records

> Create a record from the workspace, a project, or a mapped research result

# Create a record

Create a record when a research finding becomes something your team should track, assign, revisit, or move through a workflow.

## From a record list

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose the record type">
    Open **Records** and select the relevant type, such as an opportunity or
    property.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the record">
    Choose **New record** and complete the fields that matter. Required fields
    depend on the record type configured for your workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add context">
    Associate the record with a project or team and add property, owner, status,
    assignment, or source details as appropriate.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## From research or the map

When a result identifies a property or other spatial feature worth tracking, select it on the map and use the record action. Ploti carries the available feature context into the creation flow so you do not have to re-enter the location manually.

## Choose the right scope

* **Workspace records** are available across the organization according to access.
* **Team records** keep a workflow focused on a team.
* **Project records** appear alongside a project's overview, updates, chats, and members.

<Tip>
  Keep the original research request linked in a source or notes field when the
  reasoning, citations, or data caveats will matter later.
</Tip>
