# Managing project records

> Organize records inside a project without duplicating the underlying research

# Use records inside a project

A project brings together the records, members, chats, and updates that support one initiative. Records keep their structured fields while gaining the project's context.

## Add or create a record

Open the project's **Records** section, choose a record type, and create a record. When creating from the project, Ploti associates the new record with that project automatically.

You can also associate an existing record with a project from its details or relationship fields when the record already exists elsewhere in the workspace.

## Work with project views

Filter and save views within the project to create focused lists such as:

* Candidates awaiting zoning review
* Owners requiring outreach
* Properties with unresolved utility data
* Shortlisted sites grouped by status

## Open project records on the map

Choose **View on map** from the record list to visualize the current project set. Saved project views can also open as a mapped layer.

## Preserve the research trail

Keep the originating research request, artifact, or source URL attached to records that depend on external evidence. The project should organize the work without replacing its provenance.
