# Webhooks

> Let Ploti tell your routine or your user when a request changes, instead of polling

Data and research requests take hours or days. Rather than have an assistant check back on them, a webhook has Ploti POST to a URL you choose the moment something changes: a dataset is delivered or fails, Ploti needs the user's answer, or a research request's report or answer is ready. Use it to wake a routine or alert the user wherever they are.

## Setting one up

Ask your assistant to create a webhook for an https URL; it uses the `create_webhook` tool. If the receiver needs its own credential, such as a routine's bearer key, include it and Ploti sends it with every POST. `test_webhook` sends a test event, and `list_webhooks` and `delete_webhook` manage the ones you have.

Each POST is signed with [Standard Webhooks](https://www.standardwebhooks.com) using the secret `create_webhook` returns once, so the receiver can confirm it came from Ploti.
