> Ask follow-up questions and continue work from research results

# Research Chat

Chat is where you inspect a result, ask follow-up questions, and continue a line of research. For larger work, begin with a [research request](/docs/research/creating-a-request) so Ploti can check data readiness and run the work in the background.

## Research Requests and Chat

| Use a research request when…                    | Use chat when…                                   |

| The work has a defined business outcome         | You want to explore or clarify something quickly |
| Ploti may need to source or prepare data        | The needed data is already available             |
| You expect several outputs or a longer run      | You are following up on an existing result       |
| You want the work to continue in the background | You want an interactive exchange                 |

There is one research experience. You do not need to select a specialized chat mode before asking your question.

## Give Ploti Useful Context

A strong prompt usually includes:

* The decision or outcome you are working toward
* The geography or properties involved
* The criteria, thresholds, or assumptions that matter
* The output you want, such as a map, table, comparison, or brief
* Any documents or preferred sources Ploti should use

## Continue from an Artifact

Research can produce maps, filters, tables, saved queries, documents, files, and checkpoints. Open an artifact to inspect it in the right workspace, then ask a follow-up that refers to the visible result.

Useful follow-ups include:

## Verification

Ploti should make sources, assumptions, and data gaps visible in the result. Review those details before relying on zoning, regulatory, ownership, or development conclusions.
